Till 1918 Slovaks had no independent state. In X century the territory of Slovakia was a part of the Hungarian state, and such position was kept within a millenium. During the First World War leaders of the Czech nationalists have created provisional government of Czechoslovakia. At once after the termination of war, on October, 28th, 1918 in Prague independent Czechoslovakia has been proclaimed. During the intermilitary period the country was one of the most prospering in Europe. However in 1938 with the consent of Britain, France and Italy Germany has attached Sudetskay area of Czechia, and all territory of the country later has been occupied, and Slovakia has been declared by the independent state. In 1945 Czechoslovakia again became the uniform state. On January, 1st, 1993 Czechia and Slovakia have declared the full independence. Slovakia is a member of the United Nations, IMF, the European Reconstruction and Development Bank, EU. A state system: the head of the state — the President, the legislature is a unicameral National Council. |
